Upon arrival in Berlin, we discovered: The River Spree has an island in it called Museum Island. It would take about 4 days to see everything in all 5 or so museums on it (by the way there are about 75-100 museums here). Construction is happening everywhere. The rather common juxtaposition of European new/old acquires the added progression of Weimar/fascist/communist/capitalist in Berlin. It’s fascinating. It may be visible in other post-communist cities, sure, but the level of destruction and remaking that has occurred in Berlin over time seems unique. It’s a large city well-served
by transit, though cars and bikes are also constant. Summer is a great
time to be here. German is … derp, but we’d heard some of that in Munich.
In one unbelievable day in Munich (couple weeks ago), which culminated with a Calexico show (Depedro opened and accompanied, which was excellent).
A swim in north Lake Como before driving up over an alpine pass.
